Habitat for Humanity is an international organization, thus we have afflilates all over the world that hold the excellent distinction of being the largest builder of family homes around the globe.

 

It is an independent, non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that partners with people of all beliefs.

 

Habitat for Humanity isn't just about building and providing affordable housing, it is also about building lives.  It is about  building people!  It is about families! It is about getting others involved!

 

What Does it Do?

Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent, affordable, energy efficient houses, in partnership (Homeownership means that you help build your home and/or work on someone else's home) with those in need.  It turns hope into homes!  We make decent housing afforable!

 

Houses are built using community volunteers that perfom the labor, both skilled and non-skilled.  They are the people that get something done!

 

These houses are then sold to pre-qualified and trained homeowner applicants on a 20-30 year no interest  mortgage for the cost of construction of the house.  This is done on a first mortgage.  A 20-30 year, forgiven, second mortgage is then applied to cover the free labor invested by the community. 

 

This second mortgage covers the difference between actual construction cost and the appraised value of the house.  The second mortgage also prevents the new homeowner from making a big profit at the expense of the community volunteers or Habitat for Humanity.  Monthly mortgage payments are used to build additional houses!

 

Habitat for Humanity is not a giveaway organization, but its goal is to eliminate poverty housing and build up families!  

We believe that the homeownership is in the nation's best interest, through making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action, because it brings stability to families, vitality to distressed neighborhoods, and overall economic growth.  Remember, these low income homeowners become tax paying citizens.

 

Good things begin to happen in people's lives when you "address" them.  Habitat for Humanity is making possible the possibility for low income people to finally realize  the American dream!
